I’m a former Head of Client Services in the Advertising industry with nearly 20 years of experience in creative, but corporate, environments.
I have managed both small and large teams for some of the world’s largest global creative agencies and some of the smallest too. Similarly, I have consulted for and coached both the little player and the big wig.
Through my experiences, I have become acutely aware of the highs and lows that fast-paced jobs can bring to personal fulfilment, and of the irony that working long hours in a creative agency often leaves no time for personal creativity outside the office…nor energy for that matter! And yet it is something that is sought after and encouraged by many employers, without the recognition that often something has to change to accommodate this.
Similarly, many businesses are so used to ‘firefighting’, through basic inefficiency or poor structure, that they themselves also lose their creative passion and the recognition that creativity is at its strongest when a team pulls together, feels heard and is managed with empathy. Through working with clients and colleagues from different sectors, I have realised that these are issues many people and creative cultures face today.
Watching a person’s career and happiness develop is something I am passionate about; as is seeing a business fly. But watching long hours, stress and the struggle to find balance take their toll on wellbeing, mental health and, ultimately, the bottom line is something that I consistently want to help mitigate.
I decided to start coaching to not only help me achieve a sense of personal equilibrium, find a new and meaningful career path, and create my own work/life balance, but to equip me with the tools and techniques to help others to do the same.
As further commitment to this cause, I will also be dedicating 2% of profit to Mental Health charity Mind each year.
